Preparing for your first therapy appointment
So you decided to try therapy.
Here is some information about your first and second therapy appointments.
For new clients, the first appointment is the intake appointment.
This session is to gather information about that brings you into counseling and background information that may be contributing to current concerns. Therapy is about making goals and changes to help you feel better.
While it may feel uncomfortable to discuss this information, it is helpful to be as open as possible. It will give a clear understanding of the concerns that bring you to counseling.
During your first session, I will ask about the concerns that brought you to therapy. I will gather information about your history and symptoms that relate to your concerns.
If you want your insurance billed to pay for your sessions, a diagnosis must be given and submitted to the insurance company. I will be glad to discuss your diagnosis with you.
During the second session, I will discuss treatment plans and provide a recommendation on the frequency of appointments.
It is important for you to feel comfortable, so feel free to ask me questions or bring up any concerns. Stay open-minded to the possibilities that come up and trust the therapy process.
You should expect to complete forms before your first appointment. You know, all the legal stuff.
During the phone consultation, you can provide your email address. This will allow you to have access to a client portal. Once you login to the portal, you can fill out the paperwork and schedule therapy appointments. All paperwork is electronic and no need to print any forms. Intake forms must be completed prior to the first appointment.
I will come to the waiting room at the time of your appointment. Please check in with reception upon your arrival.
